Travel blogs are redefining the travel industry, the photography industry, and the blogging industry. We now live in a world where you can travel, take evidence of it, share your experiences, and literally get paid to do it all over again. May traveler bloggers live full–time on the compensation they receive for the travel blogs. Only a few years away from a time when this kind of career would have been impossible, we are in a new age of understanding technology and working inside (or outside sometimes) of its parameters to succeed. If you are considering starting a travel blog, here are 3 tips on starting your own travel blog according to an actual travel blogger, YTravel.

  1. Take Lots Of Photos Whilst Traveling

Don’t just be a tourist photographer. Look for unusual photo opportunities and for simple photos like signs, transport, someone carrying a backpack, or eating food. You can use all of these photos to fill all manner of posts.

  1. Be Vigilant With Your Note-Taking And Journal Writing When Traveling

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing. If I had it as foresight, I would have been more vigilant with my journal writing while I was traveling.

I often would go days at a time without recording anything. And then I would feel lazy and think what is the point anyway?

  1. Get Your Permalink Structure Right

This is one of my biggest travel blogging regrets and my only technical must-be-aware advice. I set up my permalink structure as category/postname, not really thinking about the fact that I would have quite a complex category structure for my blog.

What this means is that my URLs are extremely long. But worse, I now have limited control over my categories. I can’t move them around as my blog evolves as it will change the URLs of already published posts. This really sucks.

By listening to other bloggers and their experiences navigating the hobby/profession, there are plenty of tips and tricks to be learned. With guidance from actual experienced travelers, you can quickly embark on your journey to becoming a travel blogger of your very own!
